Arline Elizabeth Blottenberger [Parents] was born on 5 Oct 1917 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia Co., PA. She died on 26 Jan 2012 in West Chester, Chester Co., PA. Arline married Edward Hall Davis on 31 Dec 1942 in San Antonio, TX.

In 1993 Arline E. (Blottenberger) Davis was living at 10 Reservoir Rd., West Chester, PA 19380.

Arline remembered "After Mother and Daddy Blottenberger were married June 2, 1914 in Landisville, Lancaster Co., they moved and settled in their home at 1526 Edgewood St., Phila., PA. We three children were born at this address (1 boy and 2 girls). From the time I was able to walk it seemed I was always into some mischief and always got spanked for it. I love fun and people. Had all the childhood diseases, mumps, whooping cough, measles, chicken pox, almost mastoiditis, and pleurisy.

My brother Christian Arvel was the oldest and I always looked up to him, until I caught onto his pranks then I rebelled even though I still loved him.

My sister Mary Kathryn is the youngest and we were very close till it came to boy friend time and then sometimes we shared the same fellow, because we were 18 months apart, and then there was rivalry between us.

Our house in Phila. was very small, the same for the yard. My sister and I shared a bedroom and there was two other bedrooms. We moved to Berwyn, PA when I was 5 years old, in 1923, then we had plenty of room for playing games with our friends. School was one block away with plenty of gym things to play on. An average student but sports meant more to me. I just loved them. Even though I played paper dolls and made their own clothes and furniture, with my best girlfriend named Dot Hughes. She was born in Phila. on my birthday (the same age), then moved to Berwyn the same month we did. But we never met till we both started 1st grade. What a surprise. Her brother married my sister.

As I said before I was always into trouble and our Mother was the disciplinarian in the family. Daddy was very easy going and never raised his voice. But when Mother spoke, we knew to be good.

We visited our relatives on Mother's side of the family at their big farm and we always had the best time with our cousins. Had plenty of good food that was the best ever. We never wanted to go gome when it was time to leave. Of course they had all kinds of farm animals and we just loved feeding them. This
was our Sunday outings if we didn't pack a picnic lunch by a stream or go picking wild berries and fruits.

Mother (a Mennonite) and Daddy did not belong to a church, so we kids were never pushed into any religion. Our only association would be to Sunday School through our friends.

My High School was T.E. (Tredyffrin and Easttown Townships) in Berwyn and I graduated with the class of 1936. I was active in all the sports, Sr. class school play, and one year book.

We worked on benefits through our school years to raise enough money for when we became seniors we went to Washington, DC for three days. Very educational and a lot of fun. Three of we girls left the hotel at night and thought we were getting away with something, but when we got back the teachers
were waiting for us so you know we got scolded.

At home we three kids had our chores to do each day and special ones on Saturday. And if we did them and did them right, Mother would give us enough money for train fare to the next town and a movie. That was a big treat. The only animals we ever had were cats and they were all named "Boots", one after another.

Mother made most of our clothes and I was the lucky one because I would get the new dress and my sister would get the hand me downs.

My husband Ed and I were introduced by my brother-in-law, Bob Hughes, because he and Ed were inducted into the Army on June 6, 1941. Ed later changed to the Air Force and was sent to Texas for his training. I went down by train alone (because I never could leave my Mother to stay any place without her) so she was amazed when I left Xmas Eve alone and we were married Dec. 31, 1942 at 9:00 PM in the Presbyterian Church in San Antonio. One other couple stood for us. Ed could only get New Years Day off.

At this time I was working for the Bell Telephone Company as a switchboard operator for six years. But when I knew I was getting married, I quit and headed for Texas. Our first child was born in Castroville, Texas and we came back to West Chester to live in Ed's Mother's third floor apartment when he was
8 months old. Ed was being shipped overseas. Since them we had 2 girls and after the children were grown and on their own, Ed and I and another couple did a lot of traveling, which we all enjoyed so much. We were able to say we have been in every state of the union and some foreign countries, also the Caribbean Islands.

Since Ed has retired we took a trip to Germany and visited the Blattenbergers over there. All in all we had a good life and a good marriage."
