PLATTENBURG, Walter William died peacefully on Friday. May 6, 2005. He was 73 years old. Walter was born in Dayton. Ohio on October 10, 1931 to Clifton E. and Margaret H. Plattenburg.He graduated from Fairview High School and was awarded a football scholarship to Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, where he graduated with a degree in accounting. He worked for Touche Ross Company (now Deloitte, Touche) and Master Vibrator before starting his own accounting business in Dayton and Cincinnati. Walter retired in 2000. but the firm he started. Walter W. Plattenburg and Associates continues to serve as one of the area's most trusted financial and tax management companies in the area.
He served his community in many ways throughout his life. He chaired the Oakwood Boosters Association while his children attended Oakwood High School, his own Fairview High School Reunion Committee, served for the Virginia Hollinger Memorial Tennis Club Board. St. Paul's Episcopal Church and many other organizations that found a place in his heart. In addition, he managed to fuel his passion for football and family by refereeing high school football games for twenty years. He played tennis, competing in his later years with his wife, Eugenia, in the Senior Olympics. He was also an accomplished golfer who gave up the sport for thirty years while he was helping to raise his family. Walter was on active and trusted member of the Dayton community for his entire life. He will leaves behind a legacy of community service, love of life, and dedication to family.
He is survived by his wife of almost 49 years, Eugenia, his daughters Connie and husband John McCaslin of Moscow, Russia; Paula and husband Andrew Waizmann of Dayton, Ohio; and sons, Todd of Phoenix. Arizona; Ted and wife Eva of Cincinnati, Ohio; and James and wife Lisa of Seacrest Beach, Florida. He is also survived by five grandsons, Henry, Will, and Jack McCaslin and Gustav and Niklas Plattenburg. He was preceded in death by his father, Clifton E. Sr. in 1965, his brother, Clifton E. Jr. in 2004, and only last month by his mother, Margaret H. Plattenburg. We mourn his loss, but find comfort in the life he led and the legacy he leaves with us.
A memorial service will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Oakwood on Thursday, May 12 at 10:30 am. The Reverend Jack Koepke officiating. Private burial will be at Woodland Cemetery; Schlientz and Moore Funeral Home is in care of arrangements. Richard J. Knauss Jr., 57, of Moore Twp., passed away Friday, September 16, 2016 in his home. He was the husband of Sheila (Johnson) Garren Knauss. They celebrated 21 years of marriage on July 1, 2016.Richard was born April 27, 1959 in Easton. Son of the late Richard J. Knauss, Sr. and Kathryn (Werkheiser) Schmidt.
Richard was self employed, he restored classic cars and was a painter at Bosch-Rexroth until 2014. He was a 1977 graduate of Nazareth High School. Richard loved animals, classic cars, and enjoyed going to car shows.
Besides his wife, Richard is survived by daughter, Candy Nguyen and husband Dr. Vu, Moore Twp. Grandchildren, Kayla Marsh and James Marsh, II. Sisters, Judy Bruchak and husband Jack, Bethlehem, Susan Grube, Easton, Sandra Amato and husband Douglas, Nazareth. Many nieces and nephews, along with his beloved pet shih-tzu, Toby.
Services will be Thursday, September 22, 2016 from 6:00-9:00 PM in the Joseph F. Reichel Funeral Home Inc., Nazareth. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Center for Animal Health and Welfare, in c/o the funeral home. Online condolences may be offered at www.jfreichelfuneralhome.com.
