DR. ROGER SLUTTER, 57, CIVIL ENGINEERING PROFESSOR AT LEHIGH
Dr. Roger G. Slutter, 57, of 1832 Tacoma St., Allentown, professor of civil engineering at Lehigh University, died Monday in Washington, D.C., where he was attending a business meeting for Lehigh. He was the husband of Lois M. (Cramer) Slutter.A faculty member at Lehigh since 1966, Slutter was promoted to professor of civil engineering in 1975. Before joining Lehigh, he was a design engineer for the Concrete Products Division of Martin Marietta Co.
He graduated from Lehigh in 1953 with a B.S. in civil engineering and received his master's and doctorate degrees from Lehigh in 1956 and 1966.
Slutter was chairman of the Operations Division of Fritz Engineering Laboratory at Lehigh University. He had participated in code writing efforts of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, American Institute of Steel Construction, Association of American Railroads and American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials.
Born in East Stroudsburg, he was a son of the late George and Susie (Peters) Slutter.
He was vice president last year of the Lehigh Valley section of American Society of Civil Engineers and served on the Hanover Township (Lehigh County) Recreation Commission in 1986.
He was a member and treasurer of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Allentown.
Slutter was an Army veteran of the Korean War, having served in the Signal Corps.Survivors: Wife; daughters, Tara L. of Hyattsville, Md., and Claire E. of Pasadena, Calif.
