Harold E. Blattenberger, 87, of 5232 Fort Loudon Road, died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002, in his home.
Born Dec. 23, 1914, in Markes, he was a son of the late Charles and Ruth Mae Miller Blattenberger.
He was a member for more than 60 years of St. John's Lutheran Church, Mercersburg, where he sang in the choir, was Sunday school superintendent
and worked on church council.For 10 years, he was a transportation supervisor at Letterkenny Army Depot, after which he was an insurance agent in Mercersburg for Lutheran Brotherhood. He was a member of Free and Accepted Masons, Mount Pisgah Lodge 443, Greencastle.
Surviving are a daughter, Nancy Bender of Mercersburg; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; three brothers, Donald and James, both of Mercersburg, and Robert of Shippensburg; and a sister, Betty Gayman of Shippensburg.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Steiger Brill Blattenberger, a son, Ronald Lee; a daughter, Susan Sankey; a brother, Guy; and two sisters, Geraldine Hissong and Sara Hendershot.
Service will be at 2 p.m. Monday in St. John's Lutheran Church, Mercersburg. The Rev. Michael Brendle will officiate. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery.

MRS. HELEN S. BLATTENBERGER, 81, of 5232 Fort Loudon Road, Mercersburg, died unexpectedly Saturday, May 6, 1995, in the emergency room of Chambersburg Hospital.Born Nov. 2, 1913, in Mercersburg, she was the daughter of the late Joseph M. "Jere" and Ella Mae (Steiger) Brill.
She was a graduate of the former Mercersburg High School and Pacific Extension Business School. For 30 years, Mrs. Blattenberger taught piano privately in her home. She retired in 1981. She was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Mercersburg. As a lifelong member of the church, she taught Sunday School in the primary department for 10 years. She was a choir member for 15 years, a former council member and past president of the Lutheran Church Women. Mrs. Blattenberger also was a member of the Men's and Women's Bible Class. She also was a past matron of McConnellsburg Chapter of Eastern Star.
She is survived by her husband, Harold E. Blattenberger, whom she married on Oct. 30, 1935, a daughter, Nancy Bender of Mercersburg; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by: a son, Ronald L. Blattenberger in 1988, a daughter, Susan Sankey in 1979; and a sister, Pearl Heckman in 1989.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mercersburg, with the Rev. Michael R. Brendle officiating. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery, Lemasters. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services Tuesday in the church. CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Sara G. Hendershot, 84, of 1421 Philadelphia Ave. in Penn Hall, and formerly of 3825 Mercersburg Road, Mercersburg, Pa., died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2001, at Harrisburg (Pa.) Hospital of Pinnicle Health.
Born Jan. 14, 1917, in Markes, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Charles and Ruth Mae Miller Blattenberger.
Her husband of 65 years, E. Lee Hendershot, died July 9, 2001.
She was a homemaker, and assisted her husband in the operation of the family farm. She was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Lemasters, Pa., a former Sunday school teacher and former choir member.
She is survived by two daughters, Virginia L. Yeager of Mercersburg, and Brenda K. Doyle of Carlisle, Pa.; two sons, Fred E. Hendershot and David R. Hendershot, both of Mercersburg; a sister, Betty Gayman of Shippensburg, Pa.; four brothers, Harold Blattenberger, James Blattenberger and Donald
Blattenberger, all of Mercersburg, and Robert Blattenberger of Shippensburg; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by a sister, Geraldine Hissong; and a brother, Guy Blattenberger.
Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 4822 Steele Ave., Lemasters. The Revs. Douglas N. Hodges and Robert E. Keener will officiate. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery, Lemasters. Viewing will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at the church.

Violet M. Blattenberger, 93, of Mercersburg, passed away Thursday June 19, 2014 at the Chambersburg Hospital.
Born January 18, 1921 at St. Thomas, PA, she was a daughter of the late Clarence Wilbur and Mabel Brant Rinedollar.
Violet was a former employee of the former Stanley Company of Chambersburg. From 1957 until 1970, along with her husband, she owned and operated G. R. Blattenberger Distributor of Gulf Oil Products of Chambersburg. She was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church of Williamson, where she was a former church council member and former church treasurer. She was a member of Pennsylvania State Sunday School Association and an original member of Mercersburg Area Community Chorus. Violet enjoyed gardening, canning, and her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her husband, Guy R. Blattenberger, died February 1, 1973.
Surviving family include her son, Roger A. & his wife Lynda B. Blattenberger of Mercersburg, three grandchildren, Lucinda S. & husband Joey J. Rupert of Mercersburg, Scott A. Blattenberger of Gilbert AZ, and Yvonne R. Heckman of St. Thomas. Also surviving are eight great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM Sunday June 22, 2014 at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Williamson, with Reverend Alan R. Wilson officiating. Burial will be at St. Thomas Cemetery. Viewing one hour prior to the service Sunday at the church. Arrangements by Lininger-Fries Funeral Home Inc., Mercersburg.
