West Virginia State Senator. William Tompos of Weirton, Hancock County, W.Va. was a member of the West Virginia state senate representing the 1st District from 1961-72. In 1972, he served as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention from West Virginia. Prior to that he was a member of the West Virginia state house of delegates from Hancock County, 1957-58.
The son of Rudolph Stephen Tompos and Mary Martha (Dugan) Tompos, he married Helen Bambrick on May 9, 1942.
During WWII, he served in the U.S. Army. He was also a business agent, a member of Local 1574, Carpenters Union; he served as a building inspector; and was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Alfred V. Snodgrass, 89, of Weirton, died Wednesday, December 25, 2002 at the Weirton Geriatric Center. He was born January 28, 1913 in Empire, Ohio, son of the late Roy Phillip and Hazel Vale Snodgrass. Alfred was also preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Bambrick Snodgrass on March 15, 1974; two brothers, Phillip R. and William “Billy” R. Snodgrass and two sisters, Martha Kokochak and Virginia Harmon.
Alfred was a member of the First Christian Church. After 36 years of service, he retired from National Steel where he worked as a craneman in the Steel Works Department. He was Elder Emeritus for the First Christian Church and a member of the WSX 25-Year Club. Over 30 years ago, he was one of the founders of the Christian Men's Breakfast Club that still meets each Wednesday. He also served on numerous church committees and boards.
He is survived by his daughters JoAnn Williams and her husband Charles of Brilliant, Ohio, Jean Depoy and her husband Don of Weirton, Kathy Snodgrass of Vienna, VA; a brother Frank Edwin “Eddy” Snodgrass of Follansbee; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton from 7:00 - 9:00PM on Friday, December 27. Additional visitation will be held on Saturday, December 28, from 10:00AM until the 11:00AM funeral services at the First Christian Church. Interment will be in the New Cumberland Cemetery.
