Jacob Franklin Plattenberger, formerly of Spruce street, Nazareth, died at 9:55 last evening at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Henry Kleedorfer, North Delaware River Road, near Eddyside, after a year's illness from throat trouble. He had resided with his daughter for the past eight weeks. He would have reached the age of 75 years in September.

Mr. Plattenberger's wife died seven years ago. He is survived by the following children: Henry Plattenberger, of Waxhaw, North Carolina; James Plattenberger, of Bath; Mrs. Henry Kleedorfer and Mrs. Frank Suess, Easton, and Mrs Harry Bauder, of Camden, NJ. He also leaves seventeen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

For many years Mr. Plattenberger was employed by Peter S. Trumbower, the lumber and coal dealer at Nazareth, and recently has been working as a gardener for Mr. Trumbauer. He had many friends in Nazareth and vicinity.

Deceased was a native of Bushkill township, and was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Plattenberger. A brother, Lovine Plattenberger, of Nazareth, died about a year ago.


Jacob is buried in Section V, plot #91, in Easton Cemetery.

Mrs. Elizabeth Jeane Plattenberger, wife of J. Frank Plattenberger, died suddenly at 8:30 o'clock this morning at her home, No. 72 Spruce street, Nazareth, following the third stroke of paralysis she suffered within a year. Mrs. Plattenberger was 68 years old on September 30 last. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Simon Bachman, of Georgetown.

Besides her husband she is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Henry Kleefdorfer, of the Delaware River Road, Easton; Mrs. Frank Suess, of 841 Ferry street, Easton, and Mrs. Harry Bauder, of Nazareth; two sons, Henry Plattenberger, of Waxhaw, NC, and James Plattenberger, of Bath; a sister, Mrs. William Correll, of Logan Park, Ind., and a brother, James Bachman, of Bushkill Center. She was a member of St. John's Reformed Church, Nazareth.

The funeral will be held from her home at Nazareth at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon. Services being conducted by Re. W. H. Wotring. Burial will be made in the Easton cemetery.

Retired Easton Police Sergeant Served City For 32 Years; Was Amateur Magician
Frank A. Suess, 75, retired Easton police sergeant, died at 7 p.m. yesterday in Easton Hospital. He was admitted to the hospital on Thursday. Mr. Suess lived at 219 N. 15th St., Easton.

Mr. Suess joined the Easton Police Department in 1920 and was named a sergeant in 1928. He was the third member of the Easton police force to serve on a motorcycle patrol. Mr. Suess retired from the force in 1952 after 32 years of service. After his retirement he served as a school crossing guard at the Vandeveer School in Easton. He was widely known as an amateur magician.

Mr. Suess was born in Bethlehem, a son of the late Frank and Wilhelmina Worseck Suess. He was married to the former Mabel Plattenberger.

He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church; the Fraternal Order of Police; Washington Camp 542, P.O.S. of A.; Lehicton Lodge, IOOF; Allentown Ring 32, International Brotherhood of Magicians, and the "Magic Cops."

Surviving, in addition to his widow, are a daughter, Irene, wife of Jack Badman, at home; two sisters, Miss Alice Suess, Easton, and Mrs. Anna Leidich, Bethlehem, and two grandchildren.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Shillinger Funeral Home, Easton.

Born in Oxford, NJ, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Eliza Stout Plattenberger. She was the widow of Frank A. Suess, former Easton police sergeant.

She was a member of Magigals Woman's Auxiliary of the United Brotherhood of Magicians, Ringo No. 32, and Christ Lutheran Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Irene Badman, two grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Shillinger Funeral Home, Easton. Interment will be in Easton Cemetery.

Courthouse, Easton, PA). On 2 April 1923, James A. and wife, Bessie M., of Bath bought lot 141 with a house on the west side of Broadway in Bath from William H. In 1921, 1928, 1955 and 1966 James was reported to be living in Bath, PA.

Until his retirement he was employed by the Penn Dixie Cement Company, Nazareth R.D.1.

He and his wife, the former Bessie Knecht, would have celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary Saturday.

Mr. Plattenberger was a member of Christ United Church of Christ of Bath, PA.

Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Mabel Suess, of Easton.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Bartholomew Funeral Home, Bath.
